Your first day groove!

Your first day groove!

Your first day on site is often the most important. You only make one first impression and you want to make the best first impression on your new employer. We have a few tips on the do's and dont's of your first day.

  • Arrive early - not too early, you don't want to be waiting in the cold for hours. Prompt arrival will show your dedication to the job.
  • Come prepared - make sure you have all of your relevant tickets and documentation for your induction, and don't forget any tools you may need for the job.
  • PPE - ensure you arrive onsite with your full PPE. You wouldn't want to have to loan a hi-vis on your first day.
  • Be well presented - no matter what site you are working on you should arrive looking presentable, especially on a site where you'll be client facing, for example on a hospital ward or in a maintenence role.
  • Be willing - it goes without saying that you should have the best attitude possible on your first day but make sure you show willing and use your initiative.

  • Chit chat - it's always good to make friends at a new job but don't spend too long getting to know people, make sure you knuckle down.
  • Forget your CSCS - you will usually be expected to take all documentation on your first day for induction but make sure you take your CSCS card everyday.
  • Get caught out - it is easy to presume that your transport will run smoothly just like every other day but always check your transport times and route to work the night before. Ensure you know the bus times and if you have to walk anywhere, print yourself a map to avoid getting lost.
  • Work poorly - make sure you are working to the best ability, both in your workmanship and in health and safety proceedure.
  • Forget your lunch - just in case the site isn't close to any shops make sure you take yourself a pack up on the first day.

We hope our handy little tips will help guide you through the first day of your new job, and good luck! If you are still looking for a new role, give us a call on 01332370300.
