A couple of weeks ago the highly anticipated ‘Housing White Paper’ was released – hoping to fix Britain’s ‘broken housing market’. The UK construction sector needs to bring in around 400,000 new construction professionals in the next year alone. This is the equivalent of one new recruit every 77 seconds if the government is going to have any hope of creating the homes needed by the nation. Failure to find this additional workforce could see the earnings of trades people sky rocket in a ‘supply and demand’ geared market.
The government are currently targeted to build 200,000 new homes every year, though some experts think even this is not enough.
"The housing shortage isn’t a looming crisis, a distant threat that will become a problem if we fail to act. We’re already living in it. Our population could stop growing and net migration could fall to zero, but people would still be living in overcrowded, unaffordable accommodation. Infrastructure would still be overstretched. This problem is not going to go away by itself," – As stated in the Housing White Paper.
“It’s clear that the housing sector is booming, and only likely to grow at a faster rate as time goes by.” Confirms Tom. “We pay close attention to movements across all construction industry sectors and have reacted proactively to highs and lows over the years. Staying ahead of the game means we can advise & service the best construction companies in the UK.”
